It appears that they are recessed, so that would be PMD. It also looks like it has been improperly cleaned. It's too bad because I think I also see indications of some clashes. Can you post a photo of the obverse? Chris
I ain't seeing the 'clashing'. Enlighten me dear fellows.........I need the X's and arrows as this blind as a bat 'old guy' ain't seein' nuthin' in that regard.......
On the obverse look to the right (and somewhat downward) of the arm, and on the reverse, between the eagle's left wing and leg. These two places are particularly visible in his photos.
Dang Books. I'm seeing a whole bunch of scratches but none of the evidence of a clash........I never was good at ferreting these sorts of things out.
There's only so much I can do on a mobile device, but I tried to crop and very basically enhance the most visible area in the OP's initial photos. Note the "lines" heading from the leg towards the wingtip.
I see them. That's a clash? If so, you guys are good. Never in a minute would I have picked up on that.
These are clashes? Interesting. With a 12x magnifier, they look like slightly raised areas. [Correction: they look like slightly depressed areas.] And they're definitely not on an 1862 quarter I compared.
Yes... Above I posted a cropped photo (yours) in an attempt to highlight the same area on the reverse.
And it's late (for old fellows)......let's carry on this discussion on the morrow......... I'm tired. All that above, you guys carry on. I'm tired and need of rest. To sleep, perhaps to regurgitate, rejuvenate. On the morrow, friends of mine.......
Very interesting & helpful posts. Thanks everyone. And it's impressive that anyone could see those clashes online. FWIW, all I wanted from this Quarter was a cheap Seated Liberty with great "details". Very pleased that it's also an error coin. Now I'm looking very very closely at all the coins I got from the same source. Will start another thread if I find anything interesting.
