Before the fakes really got good a couple of the first things I check on a coin is the consistency of each letter in "united states of america" and any other verbage. Make sure they are the same - compare "A"s in different locations, "E", "T", etc, otherwise normally a fake. Secondly is the space of the letters from the edge & their rotation. If not consistent, normally a fake. The third is the size and shape of the denticles. Those are my first 3 simple, quick to verify visual tests. Although these gold coins weren't the greatest for denticles nor consistent spacing. And don't forget to be unbiased. Convince yourself it's correct, versus trying to convince yourself that it's not correct. you'll have to find a better pic than this though. edit: just stole some pics from ebay of an UNC Details. @johnmilton maybe can help ??
Kevin, are you messing with us? Why is the coin still in the flip? Why are all pictures blurry? Is this really the same coin?
Just now seeing this, sorry. My main focus is $2 1/2 Indians, but if I saw this one for sale, I would not buy it. I lean towards fake.
