Thanks! I was looking online just recently, and there were pictures of the coin in slightly more worn condition, and the owner called it VF. I thought i had a 40 dollar coin. Better luck next time
The rim and denticles appear to be somewhat raised, in comparison to other coins, therefore allowing the (central) crown and head, etc., to wear significantly (as imaged), but retain a strong, bold legend. That's my guess.
So, you are saying it MAY be vf? i didn't think it would be. But all coins have different standards for different grades, right? The reason i came here is because I couldn't find a grade chart for this coin at all. Thanks for the help!
http://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/greece-50-lepta-km-37-1868-1883-cuid-19880-duid-62293 a VF would only be worth $ 12.00, Yours is probably worth in the 6-8ish range and if your looking on a site like ebay it's pretty unreliable looking at "ask" prices for some coins. To get a real value, try searching the sold listings of a piece.
And, to clarify, I didn't say the coin was VF; I said the design of the coin tended to "protect" the legends from wear, therefore making it look better than it actually was. Most of the wear is around the central part of the coin, the King's head, the crown, etc.
