I would put it in the upper range of VF, but I know the tpg's would all call it XF. On ebay I say the ending price will be around 200. Not a bad looking coin. Assuming no real problems with the coin in hand. This is one of those dates I think tpg's sometimes gets a little loose with the grade. I know when I used to look at IHC's all the time you could find XF coins with the ribbon and hair completely worn together.
And that is why it is a BIN OBO. They sell for around $300-350 in that format. You are probably right on the money 20-30 years ago. Gradeflation is a funny thing, isn't it?
I guess it has been around 6-10 years since I really priced them and looked. I know my 62 doubled in price from the time I bought to sold(around 5 years). Its probably been regarded also. So you are right about the price range probably double what I originally posted. I just looked at ebay and it seems prices are all of the place for decent coins like this one, but certainly much higher than I stated to start with.
I meant that you were not far off when you are strictly talking about auctions: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1871-Indian...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 And that is why I chose to do a BIN OBO.
