    Hi,

I found this coin when sorting my mums stuff out when downsizing.

Any idea of what it is?

    Many thanks

looks like a holed 1871 Private/Territorial California Fractional octagonal 1/4 dollar gold coin. not sure if it's authentic or not. wait for more experienced opinions....

If it's real, spirityoda would be correct. It's worth a lot less with that hole and ring in it.

Hey, Thanks for the replies. There is no hole in the coin - it looks like the ring has been welded onto the coin. Who knows why!

Makes sense as the surface looks bubbled by the heat.

the bubbled surface looks like it came from the welding of the ring attached , try to get a better picture of it...if you can
