Sending off to PCGS tonight. How do you think she will do?

@ToughCOINS you normally are right on with these Liberty DEs

I'll give it a shot, although gold is very tricky to grade. (for me anyway)
This coin is beat to Crap...
I'll say it's an AU, but that's as far as I'll go.

Bag marks for sure. I would be happy with an AU but would love an MS. What throws me is seeing this. Mine is nicer IMO and the one below went MS61....

Conservatively AU55, but deep marks are almost nonexistent . . . I think they'll stretch to AU58 on this coin. I'd be surprised by any mint state grade.

This is why many would choose an AU58, over a baggy low MS coin.
The OP coin appears to have a little wear, which takes it from MS, to AU. (IMO)
Bag marks do not disqualify a coin from MS status (AFAIK)

I grade it the 1869 AU58. I have a few similar common date 20 Libs that graded MS60. So, I think this one has a chance. If you get lucky, it’s a $5K gain in value. Very nice $5000 coin OP!

Thinking AU58 myself. And I agree with those above that a nice AU is more desirable than a low MS.

That's an MS 60/61 and a really nice coin.
I can see PL fields, too.
But not enough to get an PL designation.

Does anyone want to take a guess on this 1893?

You should start a new thread asking for grade opinions. Show both sides of your coin.

Sorry about that guys. I was trying to make a point about tangential lighting. Please ignore my previous posts.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

That one is probably overgraded at 61.

Yours might make 61, possibly. There are a ton of marks all over your coin, but there don't appear to be many deep gouges. A 60 coin, in my opinion, walks a fine line between problem free and details. Yours appears a bit nicer than that.

I am intrigued by the semi-prooflike fields as well - that something special might be enough to bump you to 61.

I really doubt this will be a MS gradable coin.

As I understand, lots of bag marks don't mean you fall below MS. Weird, I know. :wideyed:
