You sure are a witty fella, Paddy; needing to resort to the old "troll" tactic is a sign of a true class act. Now, only if your "iggy" had been on earlier, and had you not taken it upon yourself to schmuckishly answer an honest question directed towards someone else, all this ridiculousness could have been avoided. Good riddance.
You can see some anomalies but as far as a RPD I could not say, from those pictures, yes or no. This is where the attribution will tell the story. This is a critically important aspect of a scenario like this so what is wrong with asking? Many here aren't shy about calling someone's favorite coin a Chinese fake but attribution is off limits?
Nice 1867 W/Rays Shield nickel ! RPD variety too. I'm not an Expert but I don't see any reason to say it one of the Chinese types
Nice looking nickel weston, great find!Paddy you are 2 for 2 in the last week. Pretty soon YOU will be the expert we are sending our nickels to for attribution. Its a shame some members wont take the cotton out of their ears and put it in their mouth. Reminds me of an old saying: 'Tis better to keep your mouth shut and let people THINK you're stupid, than to open it up an PROVE IT
I especially like it, reminds me of a 1921 morgan w cool cracks. I picked up 2 today at a show oddly enough.
The date of the coin is strike doubled as are some other devices on the coin. There are what look to me like minor clash marks on the east side of the obverse between the shield edge and the leaves at 3 o'clock. But if they are clash marks they are from a with rays reverse. It is not impossible that the same obverse was used with both a with rays and a no rays reverse. I am not confident that they are clash marks, but I don't have an alternate explanation to offer right now.
