Hi again a few days back I posted a Canadian Nickel with a DOT well this one is FORESURE another one there also is a larger one on the front of the coin to the right of 1992 faded and the very clear one between D and D just below the original DOT
There are collectors of Canadian coins who search for a DOT on the surface. I believe it is the equivalent to a Die Chip. Here are some examples of attributed DOT finds (not my coins)
Just some info, 1947 5 cent - dies didn't arrive until 1948 so mint added a maple leaf after the date, some dies were defective leading to a 1/2 maple leaf or a dot. 1936 25 cent - new dies were made for Edward VIII who abdicated so the dies for George VI were not ready until late 1937, to prevent a shortage of coins the mint used the 1936 dies with the addition of a dot. 1937 5 cent - dot was added by mint for 'aesthetics', it was removed the following year. So those dots were purposely added by the mint or caused by something purposely added (ie - the maple leaf). Dots not added by the mint purposely - usually a die chip error
Die chip error - not purposely added to the design. Here's a good reference site for Canadian coins if you don't have already @frap123 http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-errors-varieties.php
