I came across an 1863 Indian Head recently. I noticed it was thicker than the rest of the Indian Heads I have, but about the same thickness as the Flying Eagle Penny I have. Is it supposed to be like that? If you need pictures, I can take them tomorrow.

you're right, the copper-nickel cents (1857-1864) are thicker than the bronze cents (1864 and after). So the 1863 IHC should be the same as the 1857 FE cent.

illini420 is right, beat me to it. I have all the above and the copper-nickel is thicker.

1856-1864 Flying Eagle and Indian cents were thicker and heavier and made out of copper nickel, so they also are lighter in color, more of a tan color. In 1864, they changed the metal composition to a thinner bronze copper cent which starts out red in color but an turn to chocolate brown over time.
