Yup, it's been this way since it was made in 1863, that's 157 years. I was fortunate to get this one. It's not in bad condition either, very fine I'd say. It also has irrdescent blue overtones but I can't get them to show up. This is from 1863 so it's a Civil War Token. The clip error is obvious. The reverse reads: CHRISTOPHER KARL 42 AVENUE A. NEW YORK. Enjoy!
Looks like there is a smaller clip at like 9 on the obverse as well. I don't see any Blakesly Effect which I would expect to see on a clip as big as the larger one. Cool token!
The obverse is called Sigels seated Germania. Yours is die 1164 https://www.cwtoken.com/Civil_War_Token_Type_Set/Storecards/Pages/Cm_-_Commerce.html#0
Collecting but where you eating powder donut and handling your coin again?? jk. Really cool. I don’t know much about token at all...
@Collecting Nut that does resemble the beginnings of bronze disease, As the guys in the ancients forum say. If it is it will keep eating at the surface of the coin.
That was my thought as well so a soaking is on the way. Hopefully it will help but I've got to in the liquid now do I'll have to wait.
Update the outcome if you would. You might have to resort to a tooth pick. The white kinda looks fluffy but it is actually pretty hard to remove. I have even had it come back.
I'll try to remember. I just posted another thread if you wouldn't mind taking a look at the Zinc Cent I'd appreciate it.
