I see what you mean, but without light it's hard to tell.

Overall, my guess would be from a weak strike.

I answered your question as nice as I could . Pictures can have the light bounce in strange directions . See post 19 .

I just won the coin at auction. I'm very excited to see it in hand, and although I'm going to keep it in my collection for a while, it might be a good idea to crack it out and resubmit. Also, I believe it is the inverted 3 variety, which adds an extra premium :)

I think it would upgrade , if not it's one fine 58 . BTW a great pic .

Looks like it but my eyes aren't to good anymore. Here cropped photo of your coin. It may help folks see the three.

Why resubmit it? It doesn't look like a weak strike to me, all of the stars and most of the other details are very sharp. It's nice just as it is.

MS grade and die variety would add value if Tpg grades change.

In my and many others' opinion it is a Mint State coin. As well, I'm not a fan of the rattler holders. It's very hard to store them since they are so small and I dislike how the coins "rattle" in them. I also would like to get it attributed as the inverted 3 variety.

I would agree about the rattlers, they are difficult to like other than the coins in them. And I would agree that the variety would add value, but I also agree with the grade that it has currently. I'm not saying don't get it looked at again, I was just stating that I believe the grade to be correct based on what I can see in the images.

I like 'rattlers' (not snakes though). I'd leave it be......

I would want to see it in hand to see if there is a luster break at the curls or hat. That is how we told in the old days between AU and MS. Nowadays, they probably would just grade an AU calling it cabinet friction

Lol. Well I used to collect AU/BU capped bust half dimes actually. They were the cheapest coin with this design, could be found quite easily 20 years ago in high grade, and were a good value I thought. I still own them of course, but good luck getting a hoarder to sell anything. ;)

I agree with the grade too , but the way they call slight wear cabinet rub I can see the coin going up a couple points if the luster is there .
BTW I like those old rattlers , nice and small that don't take up precious SDB space . Also we're looking at it at about 15X if not more magnification , the tpgs use 3-5 at the most .

Borderline call I'd have leaned to a super nice 58 tho I'd bean it and call it good if you resent to pcgs they'd probably come up with some bs reason to detail it

I hear ya, I just sent a submission off to PCGS, they gave the valuable coins details grades or graded them very conservatively, and were lenient on the inexpensive coins. PCGS is starting to drop the ball IMO.

I agree in part Tpg say they don't know or have knowledge about coins their grading. That's not true just office conference by chairman weekly basis telling worker's what happen this week. Heritage , Stacks.
Corporations have to be competitive Pcgs and modern coin Perfect that to often I will say that.

Amen I'm having a similar problem they hate toners too and I think they napalm 2-3 outta every 10 for some bs reason the only thing I've had consistent luck with is gold and early bust coins I'm gonna start giving most of my business to NGC they do a better job with consistent grading the final straw with pcgs was when I tried to cross my toned pf 64 trade and they wanted to qc detail it I was beyond PO ed a major factor in my absence as I'd have have written stuff that got me banned until I cooled down a bit
