Hello all! I'm assuming this is a reprint or copy, as unless it was preserved extremely well, it's in far too good of condition to be 156 years old. Can someone provide some information on this, as I'm having trouble finding anything via searches. Thanks!
I'm thinking it's a fantasy coin. http://www.csacurrency.com/csacoin/csa20dol.htm https://www.collectorsweekly.com/stories/87274-confederate-states-of-america-20-gold-c
Fantasy and not gold. Maybe a gold electroplate or just fake, but the corrosion shown would not occur on a gold coin. Coins dated 1862 have been sold in the southern states at every possible confederate group, gathering or roadside gas and souvenir stand since.
Yes, pure fantasy piece. The obverse mimics the purported Confederate cents of 1861. No Confederate marked 20 dollar coins were ever made.
I appreciate the responses. So in other words, I should give it to my 6 year old as “something cool”?
Gary , if you are asking about a coin , read above. If you are asking about a paper note, then it is possible as some were made, but there have been a large number printed for display and re-enactment events. Those are described in several other threads here and elsewhere, so expect it to be false unless you have evidence it is real. Jim http://manhattancoinclub.org/newsletter/ConfederateCurrency.pdf
