The real one is 19mm in diameter which is the size of a current penny. Yours is not real, it's a replica, fake, or whatever you care to call it. It is no way, shape, or form, a genuine coin.
really thank you all as soon as i figure out how to post a pic from my pictures i will post a pic that was sent to me of a original penny that the owner owns all of them but one kept in a museum we are all familure with..in fact the penny is a 1862 would not be asked to make 1861 penny in the end of 1861 he stamped 1862 for by the time they were supposed to be in circulation 1861 was long gone.of course most people made replicas thinking 1861 would be faked but indeed i was explained to about the times dates and history.i will let you guys who truley love collections know what happens as it is getting examined next week in washington d.c.thank you all for your help and best wishes.
Whatever you say doesn't matter!! You said it is larger than a current US nickel, so your coin is a fake. Confederate cents were not that size, that's a fact. You can't change or rewrite a known fact and go against it by saying yours is real!
i will keep you guys updated.thank you all for your help and input.i will post some pics of my 1983 copper penny and my 1972 double die lincoln penny.thank you all.
the Coin pictured is authentic and no forgery. I have too in my personal collection they are very rare.
mr coin keeper.i understand your point exactly.but the identity of the size of the penny is discreet.therefor, when replicas are made they are easily discarded.sometimes we are tricked into believing something to see a deception of what really is.thank you for your opinion and i will let you know what happens in the next few weeks.best wishes to you all.
the coin is minted in Philadelphia by William Meade and features a representation of the lady of Portugal.
Hahaha, you're funny. It's an obvious fake and you still believe us despite the incredible majority telling you it's fake. You're ignorant to our information which is correct. Do you have anything else that is too classified and top-secret to tell us? P.S. I wonder if Niko and Jesse P have the same IP address, lol.
i will not give you my address for fearing on thefts. Are you looking for my address for mailing lists?? I collect Amerikan unt German coinages.
No, I just think you and Niko are the same person and you are just using another user name to try and sway our factual opinions by posting as "Niko" in this thread and backing up your own ideas. You also have a "rare" 1948 steel penny, right? lol
But it's only worth a few cents because it's plated with some other metal by somebody else. It was not made like that by the mint. It's really worthless.
Recommended reading for those interested by Levi and Corell, available from Amazon "The Lovett Cent; a Confederate Story" is about the Confederate cent. There are false and misleading stories about the cent and its maker Robert Lovett, Jr. Many of the stories came from inaccurate statements made by 19th century coin dealer John Haseltine. There are many questions about who contacted Lovett, and his Southern connections. Was Bailey & Co. involved? How many coining dies were made? Were coins and dies delivered? These questions and others are answered. Restrikes were made by John Haseltine in 1874. Robert Bashlow made restrikes in 1961/1962. Fake, fantasy, replica, and novelty Confederate cents are presented. Lovett was a talented engraver and die sinker in Philadelphia. He did work for Bailey & Co., and created tokens for them. He made tokens and medals for businesses, organizations, and governments. Numismatist and Civil War buffs will find the book interesting, which is academic, and based on several years research. There are footnotes, sidebar notes, and 141 images. Best of Luck to all Jim
Don't feed the trolls, guys. This guy is a joke, and so is "niko," or whoever he claims to be. This person is either a hoax or a fool, the latter of which I find to be extremely unlikely. No one is stubborn enough to insist their coin is genuine after hearing so many responses in the contrary. Fool, or hoax, neither is deserving of our time. Have fun with your replica coin niko/jesse!
hallo please do not be rude?? i am a collector and I am looking for friends in Amerika with which to befriend to discuss coinages. Mein Englisch is not as good!!
