1861 Confederate States of America

    Hello. I found this coin along the rail road tracks in California. I was wondering if anyone can help.

    1) Copies of Confederate coins are pretty common. It's odd to find one along railroad tracks, but not nearly so unlikely as finding a real one.
    2) You really need to wipe off your camera lens.

    Cheap souvenir type fake coin. These are sold in tourist shops in Civil War historic areas.

    You will note on the edge the casting seam is clearly visible.

    This is why I recommend not taking coin pics in a steamy shower.

    Yeah it is a copy. I got one of these when I was a kid from the Chickamauga battlefield gift shop along with a packet of Confederate reproduction notes.
