It definitely looks like a clashed die but i wasn't too sure, i am glad you guys picked up on that, what would this coin be worth, one with the clased die and one with out.
In my opinion it wouldn't make any difference in value. But some collectors who like that sort of thing might pay a few bucks more for it.
Very nice coin!! I looked in my Red Book and it said,to be a AU-50 (Very slight trace of wear above the ear and the lowest curl of hair and the word Liberty all there. So I't should be AU-50. OH!Almost forgot about the price.I'f I't is AU-50 I't is $80. B12
Hi All, To start with, there are 2 varieties of 1860 IHC. Yours is the "Rounded Bust" variety. A little later in the run of 1860 dated pieces, the obverse was changed to a bust that came to more of a rounded end. Earlier examples have a more pointed bust ala 1859 pieces. The Type you have is the more common of the two. It's hard to grade it without it being in hand but I think that it is at least MS60 which is uncirculated. What looks like wear appears to be , in the scan, weakness of strike. The luster is nice. It could make MS62. Just my humble opinion but I am very conservative in grading. It looks very good to me though! Could be a $200.00 coin, as a retail price. The clashed die (I can see it in the picture) would not add or take away from the value of this coin. It is not uncommon to find clashed die examples of IHCs. Have Fun, Bill
