"Most" 15 year old children don't have a lot of money to spend on coins. "Most" 15 year old children are not very concerned about residual value. Having said that it is important to remember we are not talking about "most" here because the profit man is dropping cash from prior great deals.
It is an UGLY coin. lolol http://coins.ha.com/itm/seated-half-dollars/half-dollars/1883-50c-pr67-pcgs-cac/a/1174-4598.s Not an ugly coin.
I vote not ugly Value is not a must in collecting. I collect what moves me. Sometimes is a gem unc washingto quarter, sometimes it's what makes itself available to me, sometimes it's because it's been well circulated, and I like that, especially on the older coins.
Common well circulated genuine and nice original color. Would I buy it now at the stage I collect no would I have bought it at 15 if it was cheap of course! Beauty in the eye of the beholder and I don't find it ugly
I think it has eye appeal. I've seen other pieces in that grade that don't look nearly as nice. I've also seen MS coins that a lot of people ohh and ahh over that to me are quite unattractive.
"Eye appeal" is a very subjective term. Your idea of an eye eppealing coin. Collecting is about buying what you like, not necessarily for value or future appreciation. Personally, I think the 59 O has a lot of eye appeal. Original surfaces and honest wear. On a different note, I like that contemporary bust half. Have a bunch, myself. They probably have some better stories behind them then the genuine ones!
I like the OP's coin, totally original and served its purpose in the channels of commerce. I find it very appealing for its condition.
