<p>
I received this coin recently and thought some might be interested in it. From Richard's Snow's wonderful Guide Book of Flying Eagles and Indian Head Cents, Whitman 2007 it is described as (Paraphrased for brevity) A press has been striking Liberty Seated 50 cent coins, obverse in hammer position and reverse in anvil. To strike Flying eagle cent of 1857, the reverse 50 cent die is replaced with a Flying Eagle obverse die and the press is cycled to seat the new die, causing clash marks. Then the obverse 50 cent die is replaced with a FE reverse die and cents were produced with the clash mark of a 50 cent obverse die on the FE obverse.</p><p><br /></p><p>Here is a photo from Snow's book used for educational purposes.</p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/predcarn/9-22/snow9photo.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p>Here is my coin </p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/predcarn/9-22/1857snow9.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p>and a couple of close ups.</p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/predcarn/9-22/1857snow9a.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p><img src="http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r78/predcarn/9-22/1857snow9c.jpg" class="bbCodeImage wysiwygImage" alt="" unselectable="on" /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>There is also a Snow-7 where the clash is with a $20 obverse,and a Snow -8 with a quarter reverse.</p><p><br /></p><p>Thanks for looking,</p><p><br /></p><p>Jim
</p><p><br /></p>
I received this coin recently and thought some might be interested in it. From Richard's Snow's wonderful Guide Book of Flying Eagles and Indian Head Cents, Whitman 2007 it is described as (Paraphrased for brevity) A press has been striking Liberty Seated 50 cent coins, obverse in hammer position and reverse in anvil. To strike Flying eagle cent of 1857, the reverse 50 cent die is replaced with a Flying Eagle obverse die and the press is cycled to seat the new die, causing clash marks. Then the obverse 50 cent die is replaced with a FE reverse die and cents were produced with the clash mark of a 50 cent obverse die on the FE obverse. Here is a photo from Snow's book used for educational purposes. Here is my coin and a couple of close ups. There is also a Snow-7 where the clash is with a $20 obverse,and a Snow -8 with a quarter reverse. Thanks for looking, Jim
