I was at my local shop today and found some great coins. I found a 1937-S quarter for melt and two 1920-S Buffalo Nickels with the two feather variety for $3 total.

But both of those finds pale in comparison to this $18 pickup:

The serifs are huge and the inside of the O in OF is rectangular. This is the 1857 Obverse of 1856 FS-401b cent in G-6.

Thoughts on value? A PCGS VG-8 sold on GC for $286.

The one on GC was 6 years ago. A G-6 PCGS sold on ebay a few months ago for $55.

Yeah, the thing with varieties is that values fluctuate widely depending on how interested people are. There’s really no solid price guide.

That one was mine. I recently sold a PCGS AU55 for $400 as well. I like to think I started the market on these. A decade ago, I used to be able to sell these in Good details damaged for $200 a pop, so long as they were slabbed had "Obverse of 1856" written on the holder. I've sold so many I've lost count. I currently have 4 NGC slabbed ones, two of which are also in Mint Error holders. But anyway, the current market on these is low. It fluctuates, however.
