First, I start with a sample, to see what it is like, in hand. Buying a slug with a real grade does not help me with getting a feel for the details and what to look for.</p><p><br /></p><p>I did the same when shopping for Standing Liberty quarters. I bought an inexpensive raw coin or two, realized I dislike the later years, 1916 in a worthwhile grade was not going to happen, so, I focused on the 1917 Type 1&#039;s. I now have three decent ones, of which this is my latest upgrade.
