    What do you think? Altered date? Weight and dimensions are perfect.

    It is 100% altered. This is the 1858 small letters obverse. The lettering style is different on a true 1856.

    @ilmcoins , that is a dangerous coin to own. NEVER let it hit the market. Those who don't know the lettering style difference could get taken for thousands.

    Now look at these and tell me which one you have. Lower left is what a true 1856 should look like.

    Definitely altered, however, it is a good educational piece.

    Please help these old eyes. here is my 57 FE, but I'm afraid no chicken dinner for me.

    You have a regular 57. Focus on the inside of the O in OF. See how wide open and almost square it is inside it?
