I think we might do well to open a new forum for medals. I'm generally more interested in coins, but when I come across a spectacular medal like this one... Found it inventorying my neighbor's grandfather's coin collection. Appears to have been issued to commemorate the reopening of the Crystal Palace in Sydenham in 1854, but curiously I haven't been able to find any pictures of it on the internet--so here's mine. 85.5 grams 63 mm. Presumably silvered bronze. Any ideas what this might be worth?
Nice one, Its BHM 2545 rarity-2. I would guess 1-200 dollars US. to the right collector http://www.microsofttranslator.com/....numismatik-cafe.at/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4087
There is a free "search" service for images at TinEye.com but it is not very good for collectibles. For newspaper and magazine articles, sometimes it delivers several dozen hits. Once set up, you just right-click, and in 2 or 3 seconds, it will deliver a list of sources down the page (if there are any). Here's what it found for my "spiral stack of pennies" avatar: 171 Results Searched over 17.914 billion images in 4.0 seconds.
@ffrickey You might try contacting Hedley Betts whose website is http://www.mcssl.com/store/8596432 Mr. Betts' specialty seems to be British medals, and he may have information about this medal. Chris
