Grade and value? Would appreciate all comments & opinions. Thanks. The copper/blue (!) toning is hard to capture in photos.
It's harshly cleaned and damaged, deduct for that. NGC Price Guide has it at 4,946,000 minted, $18-90, at VF-EF.
In the UK the current catalog price is £4 for Fine. which is the lowest grade. Yours looks like its been hacked to death. You would be lucky to get 20 Pence for it (about $0.33)
Thanks everyone! Can you recommend a site for researching European coins? Last week I was at a hole-in-the-wall arts & crafts (!) sale: I know almost nothing about foreign coins. But for $10, I couldn't resist.
You got that much for $10? You put the Jessie James to somebody. I'm just looking at some of those dates you got, that's a good score.
The term World Coins is used rather than foreign. Here is a site that lists all UK coins back to the 17th century, the prices are in £ and the grading is British grading standards. (By Tony Clayton) http://www.coins-of-the-uk.co.uk/values/
"World Coins" it is. And thanks for the site. To research these, it looks like I'll need a history lesson too.
Here's a Canadian reference site: http://www.coinsandcanada.com/coins-prices.php Prices (in $CAD) are higher than reality as with most, but it's a good reference/grading site
Canadian coins: I did a quick search for the 1953. I'm far from an expert, but I think my two coins are the common far leaf/non-shoulder fold variety.
I'll post group photos by country. Maybe in an hour or so. Then let me know if there's an individual coin that deserves attention. Like this:
I appreciate any help you can provide, identifying possibly important coins: I haven't yet researched these, so don't know where they're from:
The 1937 Czechoslovakian coin is a 20 Haleru with a mintage of 40,000,000. The 1921 right below it is a 20 Haleru with a mintage of 8,208,000. If you can identify the country you can identify the coins off the pictures here which links to the NGC Price Guide on the coins as well as to eBay auctions: http://worldcoingallery.com/index2.htm
