1853 Gold One Dollar

    I got this 1853 Gold One Dollar this week from an individual I have know for many years. She said it has been in a family jewelry box for many, many years.
    It looks like it has slight wear, but I don't see any bad scratches, nicks or hits
    of any kind. Shows some black around the lettering, stars, & wreath.

    I am guessing XF ? Mintage 4,076,051 Highest in this series.

    What are your thoughts ?

    It's hard to take good pics of these small coins with a point & shoot Kodak camera.

    Looks xf, need better pics for a more accurate opinion. Nice coin.

    Looks like someone tried to clean the black stuff off. :( I still see luster around the devices, but not in the fields...?

    Looks better than XF to me. I say AU, not cleaned.

    I'd say AU though don't trust the reverse hasn't had a clesning attempt.

    Looks AU to me... low AU, but AU nonetheless.
