    Howdy,

I have never collected gold coinage, but the price seemed right for this gold dollar. I liked that it did not appear to be ex-jewelry. What are your thoughts on grade and value? Is it a "details" coin? (In case you wonder, I have $220 in it) 20240815_152050.jpg 20240815_152029.jpg

Thanks! Where are the marks you see showing that?

I also say ex-jewelry. The upraised rim looks damaged.

Here is one South Africa disaster I submitted once..

Thank you. I have a deal with my wife that I only buy coins that I can easily get my money back out of, and still feel fairly safe on this one although I had hoped for better. It is fun to add gold to my collection. I basically collect by type rather than dates. One day I would love to get the books for that, but not now.

I don't like it, but maybe it's just me.

    Here's a real one.

The coin is more golden color in hand than my poor pictures show. It weighs right and I purchased it from what appears to be a reputable dealer. What specifically does not look right to you?

Smash it into a bezel and polish the hell out of it and then rub it for years with your forefinger and thumb and I think it looks about right.

It’s real and the price you paid reflects that it is damaged on the raised rims from being in a bezel. The wear looks consistent with being worn around the neck.
