So... I was in the coin shop this weekend perusing the Large Cents. There were about 6 - 1851 Large Cents. SO... I looked at each very closely and noticed one a little different.

With that said... I KNOW it looks like someone took a knife to the coin, but it is in rather good condition other than that. I tried to take good pics.

I DO BELIEVE that this is an 1851 over 81. The Date has the correct lines that match the pics I've found on the google. :)

Can anyone else verify this for me???

BTW... I bought it for only $20 (Opinions - Good Deal or Not???).... think I may have got a decent deal, and I NEEDED and 1851 over 81. In my Dansco Book of Large Cents, I am only missing 26 of the Varieties out of the 97 that are in there... and only missing 5 actual Years of Large Cents. The LAST pic is NOT my coin, but from usacoinbook.com showing an Actual 1881/51 to compare. (Pretty positive it is one.)

    I'm split...
The 1 shows the correct characteristics
But to the left of the 5, the over date characteristic on yours looks different from the comparison photo

    Nice find!

My one and only was also cherry picked. Got it from a bargain bin at Dallas ANA for $18.

These are always fun to find unattributed. It just makes you feel good!

Thank you everyone for the Opinions... I, too, believe it is an Overdate without a doubt. The damage DOES suck... but I'm the kind of collector that likes complete sets Better than Awesome Condition. I upgrade them when I find a good deal.
