1851-C gold dollar authenticity help

    6 years later but still a cool thread. So he didn't say what PCGS did with it? Grade? I would think the odd excess material around the stars on such a small coin as this would prove to be very valuable in authenticating alone, in addition to the known weaker struck area. Wonder if it got a details grade for the gouges.

    OP said it graded AU details, damaged. I assume this is due to the unsightly gouge on the cheek.
