I have a question about 1848 seated liberty dollars. A woman i know acquired 6 of them, i looked at one she had in her purse last night. I have looked in krause, ngc and pcgs guides, and none show a 1848-O, just 1848. The one i looked at clearly had an "O" mintmark. I will look at the rest and try to get clear pictures tonight. Could these be counterfeit if the "O" mintmark shouldn't be on it? I mainly collect foreign coins, but the one i did see didn't look or feel like anything was off on it to me, but i'm not an expert by far.

If it has an O mintmark, it is fake.

No O minted that year , fake especially if she just got 6 different dollars . Did you ask what about she paid or where she got them ?

Is there any chance that they were half dollars? I know from personal experience how easy it is to see something like "HALF DOL." and to perceive it as "ONE DOL." :wacky:
