Just got this one in today. Appears to have a spiked 5, any references to possible die varieties would be greatly appreciated, such as Newcomb. CN66 3.JPG CN66 4.JPG

I went through my Newcomb reference and see no mention of a "spiked 5"; actually looks like it might be damage- continuation of the damage to the right of the "5".

Thanks Jack! That's what I was thinking as well. Just a confirmation.

Variety appears to be N-6 (image courtesy PCGS):

Last note! Your's appears to be a later die state and a friend of mine would be interested in it if it is for sale.

Of course Jack. Everything is for sale. The numbers just gotta be right...lol.. Feel free to send me an offer through PM if allowed. Also, you were right, it was indeed a Newcomb 6 Variety. Thanks again. 95 (1).JPG 95 (2).JPG

Just curious - what does the 'Sample' designation refer to in details grading? I just looked through the Understanding 'NGC Details Grading' publication and don't see any mention of this.

Of course that's not an NGC slab...

Right. I guess that must be a photo of the F-Details example used by that grading service, i.e., used in-house as their reference.

Ronnie is correct, it's just a sample to a reference set.
