Very, very, few people know coins well enough to be able to identify a decent fake when they see one. And when you&#039;re out buying coins you don&#039;t have the ability, the resources, to look them up to see if they even might be fakes. And that is why there are so very, very many fakes in people&#039;s collections - and they don&#039;t even know it.</p><p><br /></p><p>And this isn&#039;t something that is limited to just large cents. The very same danger exists with virtually all coins, even the most modern and common coins like ASE&#039;s.</p><p><br /></p><p>When I talk about someone &quot;knowing&quot; coins - that&#039;s what it means. It means you have the ability to recognize a fake when you see one. Professional graders - do you think they sit and look up every coin to compare the details to genuine examples ? No, they don&#039;t. They recognize it as a fake virtually in an instant. They know coins.</p><p><br /></p><p>So when you find yourself thinking you &quot;know&quot; coins - remember this.
