I'm not considering buying this, I already have a nice example but saw this on the sidelines. The seller's description is: "1843 Large cent with micro-porosity, cleaned, see pics" I'm skeptical, what do y'all think?
I dont like the looks of it either especially the date and I believe i see pitting e.t.c on it from it being a cast?
Petite head with large lettering. First off I wouldn't know a counterfeit if I held one in my hand, but not all corroded coins are equal. I am use to the entire coin being corroded or "porosity", but 178 years is a long time to have many possibilities of outcomes. "1843 Large cent with micro-porosity, cleaned, see pics" (I just looked and didn't see any description) That's kind of honest up front, if that's what they said. Cleaned, as I'm sure you know, kills the value more than a little rot. If it hadn't been cleaned and without the rot it would probably go for four times what they are asking. I prefer brown and crusty, but if you are looking for a filler then maybe it's a fit?
I'm using chrome so can't do a screenshot but he's asking $115 for it.
