Seated dimes and half dimes without stars on the obverse were only minted in 1837 at the Philadelphia mint, in 1838 in New Orleans, and with stars thereafter.

Too bad the mint did not continue the 'star-less' design. The obverse looks less cluttered and cameo-like.

New Orleans minted dimes and half dimes starting in 1838. The half dime is scarcer and a type I have always liked.

I have managed to add three examples to my collection over the years - none in high grade, but each interesting to me. The last one is pretty nice, but has a serious edge defect.

Please post your star-less dimes or half dimes - would love to see them.

I imagine @Randy Abercrombie would be all over this design as well (the obverse anyway) . . . Although, compared to a Gobrecht Dollar, he may not enjoy looking at it through a microscope :hilarious:.
