1836 Gobrecht Dollar

    No, he did not "just get the pictures". He is "handling the coin". That can mean a number of things, including accepting it as a consignment or he got it at a show on memo with a buyer back home in mind.

    A potential consignor wanted me to photograph the coin. I made sure to ask him his permission before sharing the images with you fine folks. ;) I'm expecting a call this afternoon about the status of the consignment.

    If you are able to get to any of the major coin conventions you can see coins in hand much rarer then this piece. At the last show I looked at a MS65 1792 Half Disme. That coin had a $750,000 price sticker on it. A lot of the times the owners of these pieces are friendly and willing to let you look at it in hand if you ask em nicely. ;)

    I've seen some of those dealers have nearly a museum on their tables. It can be very exciting.

    I guess I need to stop and take a look around more often. At shows my eyes are always glazed over running around looking for which table's got the early American stuff.

    I'd be scared to death to handle that coin. I'll stick with my used coins.
