1834 Capped Bust 25 cent piece find (yesterday). O/F (fs-901)

    I spent a little bit of time this morning looking up the variety. This is the same reverse die that was used on the 1833 B-1. The reverse design was modified to fit onto a smaller planchet. The OF A were repunched. leaving light traces of the letters in the field. This would be an earlier die stage. Here is a MS65 that was sold. You can see some of the A in the auction photos.

    And here is a later die stage where only faint remnants of the OF A are visible. The markers on this one are the arcing rim to rim die crack, and a multiple clash below the ear on the bust.
