Just bought this for $21. My first capped bust type coinage.

This is such a cool coin to have. The fact it was made during the life of Abraham Lincoln just adds to it.

I like it. I would say that you did quite well for $21.00.

I think that Lincoln was running a general store in New Salem, Illinois at that time. He made his first run for the Illinois State Legislature, but lost finishing 8th in a field of 13. He did get 277 of the 300 votes in New Salem. He also got some "military experience" in the Black Hawk War where he jokingly said he fought off some mosquitoes.

1832 was also the year Andrew Jackson was re-elected President. He defeated Henry Clay. Here is a Jackson token that has been attributed to that race.

And here a Henry Clay piece that also attributed to the 1832 race.

Welcome to the world of old coins that have more to say to you than new coins!

It starts with one bust coin, innocently enough. Then next thing you know you have several. And you're just looking online for images of other graded coins to compare the one you just bought with. And you find one. And it happens to be from a site that is selling it. A new site you never saw before. And the next thing you know you bought one and are thinking about buying another. You should have just bought the other one when you bought the first one but didn't. Then you message the guy to ask if the first coin shipped. He says yep here's your tracking... you think to yourself man I really want the other coin too... so you quit thinking and just do it! In the payment notes you apologize because seller offers free shipping. Now he has to pay twice. Of course the seller is probably happy to make the sale. Now you own two more bust coins you can't wait to arrive...

I know! I was already looking online for another one for a good price.

BTW, what do you think the grade is for this one? According to something I read, it's in F12 since all letters of Liberty are intact. But I would have gone with VG8 if I hadn't have read that. What are you thoughts on grade?

I'm leaning towards F15. Liberty is intact plus the face, eagle and arrows are still reasonably sharp.

Yep, this is 100 percent correct and the situation I found myself in. I like the halves the most but I’ve settled for a number of the dimes as well.

I can’t think of another type that I had a similar feeling with.

I do have a capped bust dime for show though! It recently got a CAC sticker and is on its way back home now! This is it before it left!
