This was in a book called US Type Collection. I'd be interested in your thoughts on grade/value. There appears to be tape residue or another adhesive on the back. Thank you in advance,

    James

Hi James..... Not at all uncommon to find pieces like this with mounting residue left from a display prepared by some previous generation. I do think that a dip in acetone may help to bring that residue to task...... I am having a bit of a hard time trying to determine from the photo if your cent has a porous surface, or if it is just spotty. If it is porous, then it will be regarded as a damaged piece. Since you asked about value, I am going to offer a spread. The lower end, if the surface is porous and the higher end if it is just dirty.... Anywhere from $20.00 - $40.00.

Strange thing about large cents. There seemed to be a problem with planchets and their size back in the day. They do not all fit into an album equally and some album modification needs to be done with an X-acto knife.
