Hello Everyone. I wanted to share this one and get some opinions on grade and value. She is not in the best of shape, but I really love this coin. The dark coloring and highlights really make it unique. Let me know what you think. 20210318_122219.jpg

It appears to be the small date variety. The small date - square base "2" variety is actually the newer reduced sized type dime.

I like it. I am still looking to add some capped bust coins to my 7070.

Tough one. Guessing at VF30, IMO.

A nice original 1828 Capped bust dime. Very good dark patina, I give it a VF30

That's what I call an "honest" coin. It shows circulation and age of the time. Your's still has lots of details to appreciate.

don't even give me that! sometimes you just have to fill a hole...
An honest coin is right about yours, here's my 'not the best' example. Yours has a special character to it, at least that's what I look for.

I just wish they were less pricy in better condition, I could buy a mid AU bust half for the price of a common XF bust dime.

It is my observation that 1828 small dates "tend" to be darker. Something was going on, but I've never seen any investigation of it. Byron1828jr01.jpg

This is a "details grade" coin because it is corroded. Yes, silver can corrode.

The white areas on the coin are the remains of where someone tried to clean it. The grade is VF, sharpness, corroded. The value would be somewhere in the VG coin neighborhood.
