Newest addition to my collection. Am a bit worried about the color...wondering what it is worth and also a ballpark of the grade

Welcome to Coin Talk. IMO it looks to be AU-MS. I would be curious as to why a coin in that condition wasn't graded by a TPG. I realize a lot of collectors like raw coins over those in a plastic holder. Where did you buy it? How much did it cost? What are the measurements? (Weight & Diameter). I'm always suspicious with so many coins coming from China. Of course you don't have to give me an answer but depending on where you bought it, those are questions I'd ask before buying it. It's a $1,000+ coin.

Not an expert by any means on the series and just going off pictures.

Looks to be genuine and an O-101 which is an R1.

Some identifying features are the die crack at the base of the date to the left.

Also on the reverse the crossbars of the shield extend into the wing on both the left and right side of the shield. Looks to have a die line to the top left of the scroll. Arrows to the A nearly touch.

    AU55 and possibly cleaned/retoned.

Chiming in people that know way more than me. @okbustchaser @Treashunt @C-B-D

Thanks for the response, its the right size/shape I have other bust halfs. Non mag and as the other person said it has very minor details that match it to a o 101 so i doubt its a forgery. Im just really worried about the color and the seller did not have it graded for that reason. I paid quite a bit less than 1000 but it was still not cheap. Thanks again.

As to the cleaning, I do not see any characteristics of cleaning though i inderstand some dips dont take much off. Wish I could post higher res photos

    Wanted to add some more pictures. If there is any specific point on the coin anyone would like to see magnified please let me know IMG_20190725_004943.jpg IMG_20190725_004926.jpg IMG_20190725_005039.jpg IMG_20190725_005028.jpg IMG_20190725_005126.jpg IMG_20190725_005111.jpg IMG_20190725_005147.jpg IMG_20190725_005134.jpg IMG_20190725_004943.jpg IMG_20190725_004926.jpg IMG_20190725_005039.jpg IMG_20190725_005028.jpg IMG_20190725_005126.jpg IMG_20190725_005111.jpg IMG_20190725_005147.jpg IMG_20190725_005134.jpg IMG_20190725_004943.jpg IMG_20190725_004926.jpg IMG_20190725_005039.jpg IMG_20190725_005028.jpg IMG_20190725_005126.jpg IMG_20190725_005111.jpg IMG_20190725_005147.jpg IMG_20190725_005134.jpg

Personally, I like the toning. From your closeups, I don't think it's a counterfeit. I'd love to have one that looks that good.

It is Uncirculated and genuine. The color doesn't bother me but the surfaces look altered. Just going off pics...

What does that mean, "surfaces look altered"? Anyway in hand to tell? Would you advise getting it graded? By which service?

Thanks so much for the info, help, & advice!

If it were my coin I'd get the opinion from a few of the LCS dealers as to whether or not to send it in. If I were to get it graded I'd send it to PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. If you're not a member of PCGS or NGC you have to pay the membership fee, the grading fee, postage & insurance which can get a bit expensive. ANACS runs specials once in a while but you have to submit a certain number of coins. If there's a LCS near you ask them to send it in for you. (There will be a fee of course).

It appears to have lost it's original luster/surfaces. It looks sort of "worked over." I would send it to PCGS or NGC to find out for sure, however. It may just be the pictures.

Quick couppe questions as you seem to be very knowledgeable about capped busts. Do you think an acetone bath would be a good/safe idea? Anything else I can do for the luster? Any tips on taking better photos that may allow a better diagnosis?

Acetone won't hurt or help, probably. As far as pictures, it's more about lighting. Go buy a couple bendy desk lamps at Walmart then get "white light, outdoor quality" bulbs at Batteries and Bulbs or a similar store. Won't cost much.

Hope I am not bothering you but I tried, though I couldnt find white outdoor bulbs, are these pics any better?
