The mint goes to great lengths not to offer interesting die varieties in circulating coinage. Before 1836, all of the dies were hand made, so the positions of letters and numbers varied, and it was easy to identify die varieties. Until recently, dates and mintmarks were individually punched, so there was the opportunity for minor varieties. Today, the date, mintmark and all text are included in the hubs that make the working dies, so there SHOULD be no variation in the product.
