Same with die variety enthusiasts. Some varieties are extremely rare. Even coins with serious problems command big $$$. Early American Coppers are like that. I saw two major 1794 rarities, the Starred Reverse and Wheelspoke, command big $$$ at auction. "Problem" coins. The starred reverse S-48 R5 (F15 details, corroded, net G5) brought $9250 + premium. The wheelspoke S-33 R6 (AG3, very scratched) brought $14,500 raw. Same with the Ed Price collection of Early Dimes and Quarter Eagles. Several beaters brought big bucks. R6 will do that !
