That (West) German currency was created in 1948, and the first Deutsche Mark coins were issued in 1950. Now the GDR (East G.) used a mix of names for its currency - the early names were "Mark der Deutschen Notenbank" (MDN) and "Deutsche Mark" (DM), then it was called "Mark der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik".
