Hello World Coin People! In my coin collection inheritance, I came across many 1800's coins from various countries. A few of these coins are in excellent condition. I am just starting my research and logging on the inventory sheet. I was excited to find these. There are many more from other countries, I'm just getting started. If there are any you wish to see, let me know and I will photograph them. 1867 - Italian 5 Centesimi 1896 - Swiss 20 Franc - excellent condition 1894 - Greek 5 Aenta - excellent condition 1897 - Austria 2 Heller - excellent condition 1894 - Russia 1 Kopek 1899 - Russia 2 Kopek 1889 - German 5 Pfennig - excellent condition 1843 - German 1/2 Silber Groschen 1874 - German 2 Pfennig 1899 - German 1 Pfennig 1894 - German 1 Pfennig 1856 - French 5 Centimes 1855 - French 5 Centimes 1857 - French 10 Centimes 1897 - French 1 Franc - excellent condition 1854 - French 10 Centimes 1882 - Canada Newfoundland 50 Cents - great condition 1857 - Canada Bank of Upper Canada One Half Penny Token - excellent condition 1899 - Canada 5 Cents 1882 x 2 - Canada 1 Cent - one of them in excellent condition 1895 - Canada 1 Cent 1851 - Great Britain 3 Pence - excellent condition 1886 - Great Britain 6 Pence - great condition 1869 - Great Britain 1 Schilling 1875 - Great Britain Farthing 1894 - Great Britain Farthing 1876 - Great Britain Half Penny - excellent condition 1864 - Great Britain Half Penny 1886 - Great Britain Half Penny 1894 - Great Britain Half Penny 1860 - Great Britain One Penny 1861 - Great Britain One Penny 1870 - Great Britain One Penny 1874 - Great Britain One Penny 1876 - Great Britain One Penny 1877 - Great Britain One Penny 1888 - Great Britain One Penny 1890 - Great Britain One Penny 1895 x 3 - Great Britain One Penny - one in excellent condition 1896 x 3 - Great Britain One Penny 1897 - Great Britain One Penny 1 - illegible
I also found a 1790 - British Guinea Gaming Token Georgvis III - how do I tell if this is from the 1790's or just a replica coin?
You didn't say what kind of feedback you're looking for. It sounds like a lot of cool coins. If you're wondering about value, most if not all of the non-silver ones are the kind that sell for a dollar or two. I wonder if you meant Swiss 20 rappen instead of francs? Francs would be gold. The silver coins always are worth at least a few dollars each and some will be more. FYI the Greek coin's denomination is lepta.
I'd like to see the 1894 Greek 5 ΛΕΠΤΑ (that's Lepta). The monarch on the obverse is George I, who was Prince Philip of Great Britain's grandfather (and the current Charles III's great-grandfather). I have one of these from that period. On the reverse, you will notice the word "ΩΒΟΛΟΝ" (Obolon). The ancient Greeks had a coin called an obol, but this term is not related. The currency of much of Europe at that time was tied in some way to the British pound. In Britain, "obol" was slang for a British halfpenny. So the Greek 5 lepta coin was equal to a British halfpenny. On the 10 lepta coins of the same period, you will find the word "ΔΙΩΒΟΛΟΝ", "Diobolon", meaning 2 obols, in other words, equal to a British penny. (I am of Greek heritage and can read and speak the language rather fluently.) I'd also like to see the illegible coin, chances are I'll be able to at least tell where it's from.
Just curious, where are you getting your coins? I've purchased "by the pound" from dealers and some have very old coins, while others are all modern coins. Love seeing the old world designs.
@Hiddendragon it was just sharing of findings and possibly on the Swiss rappen, I don't know world coins to know, but I will take a photo for you to let me know. Thank you for the information as well.
@Abramthegreat it's pretty light, I don't have a scale to weigh it. I'm guessing you were writing about the gaming token right?
@manny9655 thanks for the clarification on the coin names. I attached a photo of the lepta, it's in REALLY great condition in my opinion, as well as the illegible coin. I just found all of them cool.
@Mountain Man I inherited my grandparents and my father's coin collections. Over 3000 us coins and the list of world coins above.
@mrbadexample It would only let me attach the number of files I attached. Second post with the remaining of the coins you wanted to see.
@Abramthegreat I did a bunch of research before posting it as a gaming coin. The nose on the face side of the coin makes it sure bet for the gaming coin and not the true coin, I was excited when I first started researching, but then it was clearly not the real one.
Illegible coin looks like a UK coin of George II Here's a 1732 George II farthing for comparison Depending on size could be a halfpenny or farthing, I think.
