1798 Large Cent Grade

Sorry for the poor photos. It is late and I am too tired to pull out all of my lights!!

I picked this one up today and am curious if you think it will straight grade? Maybe a F15? @Marshall

I would say in the very good range, it has wear but has nice details.

 

Good+ sharpness, but no straight grade because of the scratches on the obverse and perhaps mild porosity.

 

vg plus, not sure if it were body bagged

 

G+ corroded, detailed. Still a nice coin!

 

Reverse is nicer than the obverse.
While they are lenient with old copper, I think there's too many scratches to straight grade. I'd be F-15 on the reverse but VG on the obverse. F-details.

 

It shouldn’t straight-grade with those obverse scratches. I’m at G/VG, nowhere near F-15.

 

I’m with @johnmilton and am afraid the surface may be too porous for a straight grade..... Yours has more detail than my draped bust example and mine graded fine.

 

This coin while having appeal will not grade due to the obverse scratches and overall condition. More like a VG-6 but it would get a Details if sent in. Best to leave raw and enjoy.

 

I agree with the G - VG range with details. Still a nice coin, I like it.
