no, it is outdated and an updated book exists. It is foundhere. This is the Borckardt-Bowers reference. Heritage cataloger Mark Borckardt wrote it while he was still working for Dave Bowers at B&M. It is THE standard reference on Bust dollars, though it can be fairly expensive. The full title is: "Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States: A Complete Encyclopedia" by Q. David Bowers.
agreed, you should be able to get one cheaper than from the reatailers on Amazon, even so at $200 it isn't cheap, but it is in depth and worth it if you want to seriously study/collect Bust dollars by die variety.
This was actually a two book set. Volume Two covered Morgan and Peace dollars. It started off to be just one book but grew to the point that it had to be two. The book was delayed for a while because of it. Those that prepaid early got a heck of a deal. Those that waited paid a much higher price. Can't recall what that was. Some of the Volume Twos came out bound upside down. Great books.
Yes but more like the other way around. VAMS are like Bolender varieties because the Bolender work on die varietes came long before the VAM book.
If I could find a copy for $200 or less, I would snap it up. The two copies I bid on quickly went to over $350. I would be interested in vol.1, since I don't collect Morgans seriously, and the new Peace Dollar book is coming out.
I think I will stick with my $40 dollar book - no where near as in depth as this book must be, but good enough for what I want.
I've got 1. It's an 1800 draped bust dollar that I got on eBay from Bangladesh for $3, that and the trade dollar have to be my best purchases of all time.
You might want to add this coin to your collection. It is a rare 1851 Indian Head Dollar struck in "white copper". This coin is not listed in any book and is not found in Mint records. The seller describes it as a "replica" and the coin is stamped "copy" but it just might be geniune. The seller is from Hong Kong so you know the coin is probably genuine. The starting bid is only $0.10 so you could have a major rarity for less than you paid for your other rare genuine coins.
