I'm not an expert on early American copper and was wondering if this is worth much. There are some great details, even though Liberty is looking rather worn. Is it anything other than a cull? There's a pretty major ding at 8:00 on the reverse. What grade and value would you give this?
I believe that a lot of leniency is offered these early coppers. I have an 1801 that is quite worn with environmental damage that came back VF20. I do believe yours would be noted damaged. However it is certainly not a cull.
Looks fairy nice but the photos are dark. I can see the ding and it might be large enough to get a Details or damaged grade. I'm sure it would also receive a genuine grade if not a straight grade. Due to the age and wesrbon these coins there is room for leniency.
That chunk would prob be noted if it straight grades or doesn't. The coin is in very good shape on the reverse. The coin looks like it has been oiled. The obverse is more worn and the portrait looks off to me. But there were different designs and if the early copper people say it is good, they know better.
Hmm. I don't slab many of my coins, but do you think a professional grading would add value commensurate to cost on this piece? Or is more likely to come back "genuine" than with a details grade?
