here is probably the rarest coin I have in my collection right now its a 1795 half cent that my grandfather found years ago on his farm. From my understanding he found it shortly after plowing his garden where he found a ton of old coins and artifacts detail_113230_DSC07452.jpeg plugin_rollover_images.jpeg

    Thats a 1793, not a 1795. Very very rare.

Really I always thought it was a 1795 with the way the date looks then again it is in rough shape to say the least

Wow! What a find. C-B-D is right. Left facing bust is 1793 and is quite the desirable date. Just WOW!

It took you 1 minute to reply with the correct answer. Pretty cool.
    Great coin in any condition.

That is so cool, especially the story. I'd be out in that garden every chance I got. Can someone please explain the cap?

I is a 1793, Cohen #4. All of them have the same rarity rating, R-4, 76 to 200 known, although I think that #2 is the most common.

Here is one with better surfaces, which shows that this piece and your piece are dated "1793."

You should be out working that farm, and hard. Also others in the area if you can go to the local Admin. Find an old map showing, or listing the old farms in that area.
    Good Luck

That's very unusual for your State also . I live in Connecticut and have detected for 12 years . I've only seen a few Half cents found . I personally have only found a 1795 liberty cap in AG . I would hunt that site til my arms fell off, lol.

Not bad, have you seen Ebay prices !! Wow . Graded in low grades the coin is worth a lot . I would grade by a company that grades problem coins .

Yeah the 1793 type faces left. 1794-7 face right. 1793 much much rarer than 1795. What else did he find? And a 1 year type makes it extra desirable

They're a bit more common than R4. My research estimates the range of 250-300 or a bit more than that. Still, very scarce and desirable issue as the first American half cents. Congratulations on having one, OP, especially if you paid what a 1795 would generally cost.

A friend of mine dug a 1794 half cent down here (Glynn County, GA), in similar condition to that, at an old plantation site not far from here.

    But a 1793 is... wow.

    Very nice 1794 half cent!

1793 half cents are quite scarce (but not rare), rated at rarity 3 (R-3).
There are 4 varieties for the type, all are R-3, except C-1 which is a bit scarcer at R3+

I have taken the liberty to light-up your picture a bit to appreciate the details. It retains a lot of detail, and I estimate it must have been in F15 to VF20 condition when it was lost to the ground. A nice ground find for sure!

As others have said, where there is one there is probably more.
