I should mention what a nice token I see in 'Jello's Last Post.' The Bath 26 is temperamental in the area of the two horizontal grooves at the top of the left gate post. Your example has great detail and a good deal of mint red remaining. : ) In the area of the tree on the reverse, the detail is exceptional and your example received a nice strike, seemingly in all areas. The center and right side of the tree were never fully struck up in my estimation, based on a lot of discussion of this issue.
I purchased a whale tooth with this token embedded in it...obverse (whale)facing out, and was curious about the coin. I knew nothing of Conder tokens prior to this. Thanks for providing such clear photos. Can you recommend a resource for purchasing one in fine condition? Many thanks, Frogsleap
If you mean a great example of your whale token -- no. If you mean Conders in general, yes... You can start by watching for them on ebay, with lots of them to see, many in very nice shape. There are also dealers who carry Conder Tokens. I often buy from them. : ) There are also mail bid sales, and some where you can phone in your bid. There are auction houses, but Conders are not normally part of their trade, except in England.
Frogsleap - Bill McKivor is an excellent resource for Conder tokens, and he usually has a nice variety ranging from Fine to Mint State. www.thecoppercorner.com He's a nice guy too!
Fowler's Conder Thanks to all for the ongoing guidance. I'm obviously a novice; however, I am rapidly finding myself getting sucked-in by the "Planet Conder" gravitational pull! Best Regards, Frogsleap
CTCC, etc. I have viewed a couple of sites for CTCC in the past year or so, neither seeming at all up to date or receiving proper attention. Though I believe the club is still active, web presence seems diminished. I have heard that there were differences of opinions, and possibly some voting, that discouraged certain members from participating, and me from joining. I believe there are changes being made regarding the newsletter. What I am finding is that there are several websites where Conder Token collectors are contributing information and images. I am looking forward to the next token Congress which may be held in Chicago. I believe planning is in the works. If you' like to see some Conders, visit CoinZip.com. and look for the Conder Token Club section. There's not a lot of action there right now, but you'll find many examples pictured and some history, and some dialog. Conders are categorized there by country and county. Quite a few CT members are members there also. There's also a Civil War Token section there. CWT's are categorized by Patriotic CWT's and Store Cards, with store cards being organized by state. Patriotics are organized in numerical order, according to Fuld numbers. I started the two section on tokens there and designed the one-sided fantasy medals. I received permission form Peter over a year ago to publicize the CWT Club, and this is the first time I've really done that. I am not seeking to have members defect from CoinTalk at all -- I'm just trying to let folks know about another resource, and another place to post your tokens in a well organized structure. : )
