Oh they definitely do sometimes sell for more. I admit I am a cheapskate and will search for quite a while to get what I want at a good price. When you get into the $400 to $700 area though, you are looking at a much nicer coin. Surfaces seem to matter more than detail, and nice smooth chocolate brown coins are the most desirable.
I am too! Lol.. I honestly thought I did good on what I paid for it, but we shall see! I’m still wondering if I should attempt this acetone bath or not because I honestly think it’s something someone added because it’s perfect all the way around and shines in the light, unless E damage does this? It doesn’t look like other coins I’ve had that suffered from the environment, but I also don’t want to chance damaging the coin at all but it’s sounds like acetone is safe as for making it a “details” coin.
I believe it’s the 2B because the Star at the top above US is the same spot as the 2B the 1A I believe is more close to center of the leaf, it’s hard to tell without US being there.. it’d be cool if it was the 1A, but either way I guess it’s still pretty cool lol
Novas are fascinating and I really like the eye in the center. I only have 2, this one A rare Crosby 4-C in ratty condition andthis one, with a nice bold eye (and a tiny planchet inclusion that really sticks out in the photos)
The one you have is very nice! I’ve always liked the calligraphy US. Is that US or is it something else?
Yes, it's a a very ornate script US. Hard to believe people actually used to write like that ,but they did. I have an old autograph book with some unreal signatures in it.
Seems like those times are long behind us, as well as the artwork they put in our coins.. no offense to all the presidents but I’d prefer the lady Liberty any day, just my opinion.
