Hi my husband and I also have this coin. It is not sandwiched together and distinctly shows the four corners of the mold which is how it was originally cast from what I have read. I must send it in to be appraised and authenticated. What is the best place to send coins for authentication? We live near Seattle, WA.

Welcome to CT Heather. The best thing to do is to bring it to a local shop for consideration before sending it to a grading service. But if you add some images, we can probably let you know if it is real or not. I hate to say it, but the odds of it being genuine are very thin.

I think I have something similar as well. This discussion has been incredibly interesting. Any thoughts on this one or its authenticity? Not sure how to attach photos. Thanks a bunch!

There is only one genuine coin known and thousands of replicas so the odds of it being real are beyond astronomical. If you read this thread, you can weigh it, check the edge for evidence of a casting seam, or post pictures. I hope I am wrong, but odds are against it!

Here are 4 pictures I took of the coin. I don't have a scale sensitive enough to weight it but can get one, if it is worth pursuing. Based on the pictures below, any thoughts?

This is a typical cheaply made souvenir type replica. You can see the "copy" stamp in the first photo, but even without this it has all the attributes of a cast copy.

I just recently found this coin in my 100 grandfathers collection. I live in NC and would love to have someone more knowledgable than I to take a look. Any suggestions.

Cast replica of a Janus copper. It was most likely made before the copy stamp was required by law.

No real value. Someone might pay a dollar or two just to have a copy as it is impossible to get an original.
