I could have been a science experiment. In which case you can make as many of them as you want too. Otherwise, you can buy as many of them as you want from online vendors, *one* such example ==> https://www.merrickmint.com/bicente...ns-24k-gold-plated-w-capsules-quantity-3.html After the novelty wears off over time, they usually end up in circulation.
The bicentennial was a really big affair at the time. I remember it all too well. There were endless curio outfits plating coins for inclusion in their particular curio item. Lots and lots of these pieces were altered and sold to the hungry masses. The curio item lost its appeal and the quarter finds its way back into circulation. Very familiar story.
Whether a bank will take them or not doesn't matter. It is the same size and weight as a quarter and any machine (parking meter, coin acceptor in store, coin star, vending machine) will accept it. While technically it doesn't have more value than a quarter, sometimes they can be sold for more than face value. 50 cents, whatever. It isn't going to hurt anyone, to keep it, or spend it.
Keep as a pocket piece. When your dealing on something else and your a few bucks away from the deal....ask the buyer or seller if they will flip for the difference. Practice with it. If it comes up tails more often then not you have an advantage. it may pay for itself first time out.
