There are many 1776 - 1976 bicentennial quarters on eBay for hundreds of dollars. I just saw one list for $900. What is with this? Does anyone know?

Provide a link for the $900 one. It might help. Super high grade?

I wouldn't pay that if it was MS 70 and Salma Hayek sat on it.

I'd sell all of mine for $10 each.

Do people really buy things like this?

That might be fun. There is also a seller in China selling lots of 1916 Liberty Standing Quarters. People are buying them. P T Barnum couldn't do it better.

People can ASK anything they want for a coin. Getting it is another matter completely.

Every now and then someone with more money than knowledge will buy something like those coins. (And THEN they will frequently run to a coin forum to show off their latest "treasure". We then get to tell them about the tuition at the school of hard knocks.) Many people who list auctions like the ones posted here, are trolling for those unknowlegeable suckers and hoping one will take the bait.

If it was MS70 it would be worth tens of thousands though. The other part... maybe an additional dollar or two :)

Looks like money laundering or illicit trade to me. Just like on amazon, you'll sometimes see really common books listed for hundreds of dollars.... Easy way to launder really quickly small amounts, or to set up deals, according to a LEO friend of mine.

I will sell you all you want for 20 cents each if you pay 2.67 shipping on each like he is asking. And, like the seller, I don't accept returns. I think this is what happens when ebay offers free listings and the only investment the seller has is a little time.

I find this to be a VERY common coin. I literally find one every week metal detecting. They made almost 810 million in Philly and 860 million in Denver.
It is a nice design, and was a welcome change (for a 1 year reverse) after 44 years.
Even in MS 65 is it listed (High IMO) at $6.
There's too many of these crap listings and I have stopped bothering with EBay a few years ago.

You could be right. The seller has been an eBay member for 2 years and has 0 feedback. How does that scam work?
